Finland Korisliiga: Kauhajoki crowned champion, Aaron Jones MVP

Final curtain had fallen last week on top division of Finnish basketball - Korisliiga. For the first time in club's history, Kauhajoki Karhu is celebrating league title, after they beaten main favorites Salon Vilpas by 4-2 in Finals.
Tough battle was fought during regular season to avoid last place nad relegation. At the end, Korihait had better mutually success over Lapua, which was relegated from Korisliiga after 6 seasons playing in it.

Aaron Jones from Salon Vilpas maybe didn't have best individual numbers in all categories, but he led his Salon Vilpas to first place during regular season and was their best players on the road to the Finals and deserved the MVP Award.
This 206 cm (6-9 ft) tall bigman was league's leader in rebounds and blocks, with 11,1 boards and 1,9 blocks per game. He was scoring 15,6 points, dishing 2,3 assists and stealing 1,0 ball per game on great 69% shooting for 2 and 63% overall shooting from the field.

Winning side Kauhajoki bigman, 201 cm (6-7 ft) tall Stephen Maxwell also had very good year, finishing season with 16,5 points and 7,6 rebounds on great shooting efficiency - 68% which was enough for him to deserve First Team All-League award.

Rene Rougeau was Kauhajoki's most consistent player, averaging 14,3 points, 6,6 rebounds, 3,5 assists and 1,3 steals per game. This 198 cm (6-6 ft) tall Small Forward was very precise, shotting with 52% accuracy from the floor.

Best Shooting Guard in the league was 193 cm (6-4 ft) tall Devoe Joseph from Nokia. Devoe averaged 18,3 points, 3,8 rebounds and 3,2 assists on 43% 3 point shooting and 85% free throws.

League's best assistant deserved the Point Guard position in First Team All-League. Vincent Concil, the 188 cm (6-2 ft) Nokia guard averaged 15,6 points, 4,3 rebounds, 7,7 assists and 1,1 steals per game.

Cam Gregory is true bigman with really good Senior year behind him. This 203 cm (6-8 ft) tall Loyola Maryland graduates averaged 107 points and 8,2 rebounds on 59% shooting. He led his team in rebounds and Field Goal percentage last two years!


Playing style:
  • strong and athletic, runs the floor well
  • finishing strong arround the rim, likes to dunk the ball
  • solid 1-on-1 offense when playing face to basket, has to improve his low-post back to basket tehnique
  • sacrificing player, not avoiding hustle plays
  • good rebounder, strong boxing-out and smart positioning
  • solid individual and team defense, uses good athleticism to defend multiple position

Joseph Lopez finished his college career averaging 12,1 points and 9,2 rebounds on 48% shooting for Sacred Heart in his Senior year. He was Pioneers second scorer and top rebounder in both years he spent there.

  • physically strong left handed bigman
  • good low-post offensive moves, good scoring arround the rim
  • can score from midrange or baseline shots
  • very good rebounder, with good timing and agresiveness on both ends (13,7 rebs per 40 minutes in Senior year, 5,2 of them on offensive end)

Jackson State graduate Treshawn Bolden plays both bigman positions equally well. He is solid defender and rebounder, who averaged 6,4 points, 5,5 rebounds and 2,1 assists in Senior year.

Playing style:
  • athletic player, with quick feet and hands, solid muscularity
  • likes to play face to basket and drive from midrange, finishing arround the rim with solid efficiency
  • can score from midrange or baseline with jump shots
  • good posting and boxing-out on defensive rebounds
  • can defend multiple positions using his athleticism
  • has nice sense for game, making nice passes

Croatian Power Forward Mario Matasović is heading to pro basketball after having good Senior year at Sacret Heart. The 202 cm (6-8 ft) tall bigman averaged 11,6 points, 6,3 rebounds and 1,3 assists on 56% shooting from the floor and 74% from free throw line.

Playing style:
  • solid athleticism, runs the floor well
  • good scorer from the paint, uses his good low-post tehnique
  • nice jump shot and shooting tehnique
  • dangerous Pick'n'Roll offensive player, quickly finds the open space after setting good screens
  • very active on defense
  • solid rebounder, follows the shots

Phil Carr is versatile Power Forward from Morgan State. He finished his college career averaging 13,7 points, 9,3 rebounds and 1,3 assists, being Bears top rebounder in all 3 years he spent there.

Playing style:
  • very athletic player, good quickness and agility, long step and wide wigspan
  • can score from all over the floor
  • has good shooting range and solid shooting tehnique
  • great rebounder, very active on both ends
  • can defend 3-5 positions, solid help-side defense on smaller opponents

Playing at Small Forward spot, Austin Ajukwa appeared in 29 games for Charlotte this season. This 201 cm (6-7 ft) tall averaged 8,7 points and 3,4 rebounds per game with great 87% free throw shooting.

Another Charlotte graduate is Hudson Price, 201 cm (6-7 ft) tall Swingman. He played good minutes as Senior, averaging 10,2 points, 4,8 rebounds, 1,0 assist and 1,0 steal per game, while shooting excellent 52% for three.

  • drives good, using his long first step and solid agility
  • great spot-up shooter
  • can score pull-up jumpers off the dribble

Chace Franklin played only 11 games in his Senior year for Jackson State, but had solid numbers in it. This 196 cm (6-5 ft) tall Swingman averaged 10,2 points, 3,6 rebounds and 2,2 assists per game.

  • versitale offensive player, can score from different positions
  • likes to drive and finish with layups

Shooting Guard Paris Collins graduated at Jackson State, averaging 11,2 points, 6,1 rebounds, 2,5 assists and 2,9 steals per game in Senior year.

Texas A&M graduate Joe Kilgore is 196 cm (6-5 ft) tall Guard, really good team player. He spent his entire college career with Islanders, leading them in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals in hi Senior year, averaging 18,6 points, 5,6 rebounds, 3,3 assists and 1,8 steals per game.

  • very athletic, has really quick first step and footwork, high vertical leap and solid muscularity
  • acts really well as secondary playmaker, has nice passing ability and court vision
